How to apply

The Course

This course is aimed at those wishing to work in the make-up and fashion industry as a professional make-up artist and will give you the skills and confidence required to meet the demands of this exciting and innovative industry. You will have the opportunity to work on photo shoots and theatre productions.

You will cover a wide range of units, including:

  • Applying make-up
  • Instruct on make-up application
  • Promote products and services to clients
  • Camouflage make-up
  • Media make-up
  • Design and apply face and body art
  • Fashion and photographic make-up
  • Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  • Hair styling
  • Apply airbrush make-up to the face

In addition, you must be willing to work some evenings and weekends as a compulsory aspect of meeting the work experience requirements, on both internal and external theatre productions, in order to apply your skills in an industry setting.

Ideally, you will have GCSE Maths and/or English Language at grade 4/C. Adult learners will need to have a good basic level of education and the motivation to learn.

Typically you will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C), including a 4/3 (4/D) combination for maths and English.
On successful completion of the course you could progress to university to specialise in an aspect of make-up such as prosthetics, fashion, wigs etc. or to employment with make-up companies. You could also take additional professional short courses or enter employment.
