The Course

Our English courses are accessible to adult students of all abilities. Studying English can improve your job prospects, help you progress further in your current career and be a stepping stone to further study. Our friendly and expert lecturers will develop your confidence and skills in reading, writing, listening and communication, giving you the ability to operate confidently, effectively and independently in education, work and everyday life.

All classes take place in an inclusive, friendly and relaxed environment, and are available in the daytime and evening. Students often find that they make new friends along the way!

At Cheshire College we offer GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications in both English and Maths. After we receive your application, you will be invited to Campus to take an assessment so we can enrol you on the course that is right for you.

Our GCSE courses run from September to early June. You will analyse texts, discuss topics and issues going on in the world around us, and hone your writing skills, so by the end you should  achievine the pass grade you’ve been hoping for. The GCSE course is assessed by examinations at the end of May/beginning of June. You will be supported fully by members of our English department and surrounded by like-minded adult students all wanting to achieve their GCSE.

Our Functional Skills courses run three times throughout the academic year for ten weeks at a time. Each ten-week block includes lessons, revision and exam preparation and at the end you will take exams in reading, writing and speaking & listening. Our Functional Skills courses give  you multiple opportunities throughout the year to sit the exams. Courses are available from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, so there is something for everyone! You can join a course at the beginning of any ten-week block. The start dates for each block are:

  • September
  • January
  • April
