The Course

Do you know your Prada from your Primark? Do you know what’s bang on trend every season? Then a career in the fashion industry may be your catwalk to success. The fashion industry is an exciting, fast-moving sector that offers plenty of opportunities for creative and ambitious individuals. At Cheshire College – South & West you will develop the skills that will make any potential employer want to snap you up!

You will explore marketing and display techniques and find out how to deliver outstanding customer service. You will gain essential skills in management, buying, brand development, fashion promotion strategies and research and development. You will also benefit from our strong links with local employers by working on visual merchandising projects for the major brands at McArthurGlen Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.

Your new-found skills will open the door to various professions and roles including:

  • Fashion retail buyer
  • Visual merchandiser (window dresser)
  • Fashion stylist
  • Branding for fashion brands
  • Graphics in retail
  • Shop support staff
  • Retail managers

Most students progress to higher-level courses or university, and a third of students enter employment in the industry.

Typically you will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C), including a 4/3 (C/D) combination for maths and English.
You’ll gain the skills you need to go to university or enter a number of roles within the fashion industry such as personal shopper, retail assistant, fashion buyer, fashion stylist, visual merchandiser and other careers within the fashion industry.
