How to apply

The Course

Our GCSE in Computer Science will teach you the skills and knowledge detailed in the AQA GCSE Computer Science single award syllabus. You will have access to a wide range of online materials and all classes take place in an inclusive and supportive environment. Our friendly and knowleagable lecturers are here to support you.

A GCSE Computer Science qualification can lead to exciting new careers in a variety of roles in areas such as games development, website design, programming, cyber security, data analysis, app development and many more! Studying computing can also provide you with useful transferable skills, such as research, planning, analysis and teamwork skills, and our GCSE coursess will help prepare you for study at a higher level.

The course is fast-paced, so good attendance is required to ensure you keep up with the content and do not miss essential practical work. Plus regular reading from the course textbook and study at home is encouraged to maximise your success and grade at the end of the year.

You will study the following units:

  • Fundamentals of algorithms
  • Programming
  • Fundamentals of data representation
  • Computer systems
  • Fundamentals of computer networks
  • Cyber security
  • Relational databases and structured query language (SQL)
  • Ethical, legal and environmental impacts of digital technology on wider society, including issues of privacy

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but having a good level of literacy and numeracy would be advantageous.
On successful completion of the course you could progress to a Level 3 Access to Higher Education course at the College or our Level 3 Cyber Security programme. You could then move up to our HND in Computing for England.
