How to apply

The Course

Do you enjoy Textile Design and have a passion for fabrics, threads and all kinds of fibres? Do you take pleasure in experimenting with colour texture and pattern? Then this course is for you. You will gain knowledge, skills, and enjoyment from learning the basic elements of art and design, and from improving your skills in sewing, embroidery, felting, weaving, painting, printing, image manipulation, and digital photography. You will also learn how to progress your studies from initial ideas through to final outcomes and how to present those outcomes to achieve their maximum visual impact.

This course places a strong emphasis on learning how other artists create images as well as on contemporary techniques and materials.

A1 Units:

  • Unit 1: You will select a theme and create work based around that theme, influenced by the style of chosen artists. Through investigations and exploration of material techniques and processes you will create a personal body of work.
  • Unit 2: Practical exam externally set by AQA including a 5-hour practical supervised control piece. This involves working from a chosen theme to develop a body of research, experimental developments, pieces of work and outcomes. These should demonstrate your media experiments and the influence different artists had on your work.

A2 Units:

  • Unit 3: You will select a theme and create work based on the style of your chosen artists. Through investigation, exploration and manipulation of fibres you will create your own body of work.
  • Unit 4: Practical exam externally set by AQA.
