How to apply

The Course

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and its popularity and appeal as an academic subject is increasing significantly. With this in mind we are offering the opportunity to study Spanish at A Level to students with a keen interest in foreign languages and who want to extend their knowledge of Spain and the Hispanic world.

Aural, reading comprehension, oral and written expression will be taught within the framework of six modules. Spanish is taught through listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and the course modules provide the framework for these skills.

A1 Units:

  • Leisure and Lifestyles – travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, customs, traditions, healthy/unhealthy living.
  • The Individual and Society – relationships and responsibilities, gender issues, youth culture, education, future careers and vocational training.

A2 Units:

  • Environmental Issues – pollution, global warming, transport, energy, renewable energies, recycling.
  • Social and Politics Issues – role of the media, racism, immigration, social exclusion and integration, terrorism, world of work.

Why study Spanish?
Learning another language opens up new opportunities and gives you a new perspective on life that you may never encounter otherwise. There are personal, professional, social and economic advantages of learning a foreign language. Spanish is spoken by at least 400 million people around the world and it is currently the third most common spoken language worldwide. You will enjoy learning a language than can help you when you travel worldwide and could be very useful if you want a future in an international company. You can even start Spanish A Level from scratch and complete the course in two years. To do this you will have to show that you an aptitude for languages.

Typically you will need 5 GCSEs, including two at grade 5/B (or above) and three at grade 4/C (or above) including maths and English. You will need Grade 5 in Spanish GCSE.
You can study Modern Foreign Languages at university or go abroad to pursue your career in Europe or the world.
