French at A-Level aims to develop the language skills introduced at GCSE. A comprehensive review is made of all basic grammatical structures before setting out to study the more complex features of the syllabus. Reading, speaking and listening skills are developed equally with a view to ensuring you have rounded skills.
French is taught through listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and the course modules provide the framework for these skills.

Why study French?
Learning another language opens up new
opportunities and gives you perspectives that you might never have encountered
otherwise. Personal, professional, social and economic considerations all point
to the advantages of learning foreign languages. French is one of the official
working languages of most international organisations. We offer the opportunity
to build on skills gained at GCSE.
Classes are small and you can receive individual help and encouragement. You now also have the opportunity to study a film, a region and/or a book. Our pass rates in French have been constantly at 100% over the last 9 years. Apart from language study, you will also gain an insight into French society, culture and historical background through authentic material, videos, tapes and the Lecturer herself who is a native French speaker.
What else can you do on the course?
In the past, there
have been visits to Manchester to see French films at the Corner House, Language
conferences in Manchester, trips abroad and there is an opportunity to do work
experience in the south of France.
